The Compressor Station at Reckrod near Bad Hersfeld

At this intersection of the two natural gas pipelines STEGAL (Sachsen-Thüringen-Erdgas-Leitung, or Saxony-Thuringia natural gas pipeline) and MIDAL (Mitte-Deutschland-Anbindungs-Leitung, or Central Germany connection pipeline) the Reckrod compressor station assures the required pressure for further transportation of the natural gas.

JAGAL is lowered into the pipeline trench

The long-distance natural gas pipeline JAGAL (JAMAL-Gas-Anbindungs-Leitung, or JAMAL connecting gas pipeline) is laid in the pipeline trench at a safe depth of at least 2.20 metres with the aid of so-called side beams. The continuation of the trench route - shown here near Halle - can be seen in the background.

The natural gas transmission pipeline WEDAL

The WEDAL pipeline (engl. West German Gas Link) has been strung on its right-of-way near Wuppertal in 1996. The pipes have been welded and are now ready for laying on the staked-out 24 meter working width.
The WEDAL pipeline is a project of truly European dimensions, and will be used for the exportation of Russian natural gas into West European countries, as well to the UK. The European Commission in Brussels has proposed including WEDAL in its official list of priorities for the "Trans-European Networks" (TEN) program promoted by the European Union.

WEDAL river crossing

The natural gas transmission pipeline WEDAL (engl. West German Gas Link) also crosses wide rivers such as the River Lenne near Hagen. River crossings are pipework structures shaped like the river bed.
The WEDAL pipeline is designed to carry over 11 billion cubic meters of natural gas each year as well to the UK.

WEDAL pipe welding

As pipe joins pipe, the natural gas transmission pipeline gradually takes shape. Experienced gangs of highly qualified welders play a major role in the construction of sound natural gas pipelines.
